The Ultimate Marketer

Well, I dont claim to know alot about Marketing yet, but yeah sure this is an attempt to corelate whatever little I know to the thoughts in my jobless mind.

So I first start with a contracdiction to my first post.

Well, lets assume there is a super power called GOD! And he created us- The humans.

Each one of us is hence a product of God, or lets call ourselves a brand. Now we all have our own personalities, just like a brand would have its positioning and personality. An d now when I think about it, no wonder we try to attribute human features to  brand, because we are mere brands using other brands made by us. Every term and theory in marketing could be defined and quoted as examples, if we are perceived as brands created by God.

Well lets consider the term Brand Loyalty. Your family and parents for whom you would be there, A Best friend for whom you would travel any extend, for the love of your life who just means the world to you. There are exceptions, but at the same time brilliant examples to explain the term Brand loyalty.

Competition has always been there in the market, just like between people. The fact that there can be competition between people with one tiny similarity, holds true for brands too. There is a competition between Tata Motors and the Indian railways, transport being the only common link.
Just like there are parent compnies that position and brand a certain brand under them, the parents are the major forces and influencers in creating a personality and identity for their children. There are alot many factors controlled by the family up bringing.

The very fact of how people try to prove themselves through word of mouth, showcasing their talents etc could be linked to the advertising of the brands that they are. The fact that they try to create an image in the minds of others and also a recall is similar to our market scenario. Just like there are many people who can't get along together and how there are friends who would talk good about you to others and how there are friends who you get along with; similarly there are brands which are strong comeptitors in the market, and brands which have surrogate advertising and also compliment eachother's existence in the market.

Now you may wonder how the 4Ps would be relevant to humans when considered as brands. Well, the price of the brand would be the dignity and pride that we have. The values that we carry would be our features. Being reliable, friendly and ready to help would explain the availabilty and the promotion has already been explained above.

We marketers study Brand Ecology and try to decode Marketing. Well if  we realise that we live in one and are actually define what is marketing from what we are, life for the marketers would seem much simpler.

Again, if He is out there, the omnipotent power; Hats off, I would say to the "Ultimate Marketer" who handles Trillions and trillions of such complicated and intricate brands, with not much differentiation, and still manages to make this market place seem like a sane one to live in!

P.S- I know Im still an infant in this world of Marketing, yet it enthralls me to put down the few thoughts that intrigued me!  Also sorry for making it too bookish. MBA has finally got me! :P

An Irony decrpyted

This goes out to all the negative energy stricken, petrified people out there. A story that my recent good friend narrated to me which was an eye opener for him, struck me with a bang. A story of a woman with a melted face and how petrified he was to talk to her.

We all are petrified about something everyday. For some its a rat/ a snake/ a gang of bullies/ a lecture of the most insensitive(just seems so) professor / a relationship and for some its bigger- Its Life! Life poses so many challenges just so unexpected that, we are scared as of what is next. We are so conditioned to work for fulfilling our basic needs such as food shelter sex etc that we are pertified of our experiences in life and forget to live it. Everything that we do is with a goal to excel and win because we are afraid to lose in this race of life. This fear when heightens in the minds of certain unstable people, they choose to end it all.

Why is that its tough to interact with people without assessing them and not be careful while choosing a friend? Why is a mom petrified of feeding her child pani puri during the rainy season? Why is a woman pertified of walking alone on the streets at 12 am? Why is it petrfying to try new things in life? Why is it petrfying to introspect yourself and accept that your wrong? Why is it petrifying to make a mistake and default? Why is it petrfying to accept something that is unusual and that the society doesnt accept? Why is something always in life so petrifying?

Well the solution to end this chain of mental torture came from the story my friend narrated. Well the moment he talked to the lady with the melted face, he realised how wrong it was not to approach the lady just because she wasnt the usual. She was the liveliest and most engaging person he had met in that old age home. She cracked a joke and quoted a shayari. She asked him not to judge a person by their looks but to respect them for what they are from within. The whole conversation involved the transit of a petrified friend of mine to a pleasant happy and overwhelmed friend of mine. Irony! Irony is the word that essays this transition.

Very often we are to petrified that we forget to enjoy the beauty of life, friends, and every other thing that relates to us. Its a preassumption that things might not go well. But yes as the irony has it, its these moments and things that make life worth living. Its these moments that end up turning the most fun, happy and memorable. These are moments that prove to you that all that ends, ends well and that, being scared wouldn't help at any point in time.

Quoting a best friend of mine- 'Life is too funny to be taken seriously, so why not enjoy all the topsy turvies!'

If Chessmen were Real!

Have you ever wondered why Chess is the only game that seems to be the most logical among all? Why is it  that the game requires the effort of that one person to struggle through, to make it to the end? Today the bits and pieces have fallen in place ultimately solving this mystery, for me.

What if chessmen were real? What if the chessmen belonged to the species - Homosapeins?- Well it would be just one of us. Each chess piece has its uniqueness and value just like any of us with a talent and quality, that defines who we are. The pieces would be a part of the society and its powerplay that we as humans experience everyday. Its when the game begins that each piece believes that it knows its purpose, its strategies and its final goal. It moves across the battlefield proving its worth and might not knowing that sometime soon its going to have to sacrifice its life for the battle to be won. It doesnt seem to take time, stop and think and enjoy the camaraderie within the army. Its conditioned to believe that it has a purpose and the better straegies it makes, the better are its chances of survival. Its all a competition where there seems to be no time to enjoy the person one is and the value that one radiates. Their might be instances when the pieces believe that their move wasnt the best which was at the cost of their lives or their success in the game. The turmoils turnout to be the best teacher to stregthen up themselves. But at the end of the game, it all comes down to existence and security. The meaning of relationships, acquaintances and the sense of being one is lost in the process of strategizing and heading the powerplay. The chessmen begin to believe that they are the tough intelligent gladiators who have made it through and have got it all figured out. Well afterall, life is about living the myth of one being that gladiator and experiencing the illusionary!

So the next time you say 'checkmate' and realise that you've won the battle, you've done nothing but simulate the reality of your life. Do remember your just a similar piece on another chessboard being played by the ultimate gladiator who actually has it all figured out. Your just another chess piece he would keep or sacrifice to play his game. The sad part being that your just the part of one game out of the millions of games that the he has played.
